At Hui Wa’a O Puget Sound (outrigger canoe club of Puget Sound), our mission is to share and preserve Hawaiian culture through the art of outrigger canoe paddling. We engage our community in learning the traditions and values that define our heritage, fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility among participants.
The organization was established in 1997 with the mission of promoting Hawaiian culture in the Pacific Northwest. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to preserving and perpetuating Hawaiian traditions through the practice of Outrigger Canoe Paddling. Our club is dedicated to educating and training individuals of all ages—men, women, and children—in the history, craft, and techniques of Hawaiian outrigger canoeing. Additionally, we foster opportunities for cultural exchange and collaboration among the people of the United States, Native American communities, and Pacific Islanders.
